Where Did The Week Go?

Well so much for writing on here everyday. I went to a quilt retreat this past weekend and had a fabulous time. It amazes me time and time again how totally awesome quilters are. Quilting transcends all socio-economic boundaries, no matter if you are wealthy or struggling to make ends meet, quilting just makes us all so close and such comrades.

There we ten of us on the retreat, I knew all but one of the ladies and by the end of the night Friday we were all like long lost sisters. I'm not sure when I've had a better time or better food than I had this weekend.

Well I am working at the convention center for the next two weeks for the International Quilt Market and Festival. These first three days are set-up and wow is it an undertaking. I will have more stories to share about the retreat and Quilt Festival in the days ahead.

Project Due Saturday and I haven't started!

Well, I guess you can see I missed posting yesterday but it really was not a missed day because the post is out there in never never land somewhere. I downloaded the app to my phone and wrote a test post on Tuesday, then on Wednesday I woke up with a fever and chills so I kind of took it easy most of the day. I did write a post from my phone but I can't find it now. :{

Besides taking it easy yesterday I was trying to be careful and not get nervous because our water was off all day. Of course they told us ahead of time like at 5:30 on Tuesday evening. Dah, what can you do that late in the day to prepare for something like that. I can't lug water in for the toilet or anything. I can't find the stopper for the bathtub it is lost in the bottomless pit under the sink or some other such evil place of nothingness. I did make tea and kool-aid to drink but then again if you drink you have to pee, if you pee you have to flush and there you have the never ending circle of stupidity. Oh and did I mention that I haven't had light in my kitchen in 2 weeks. Our ceilings are 9 feet tall and I am in a wheelchair. The bulb was out in the florescence fixture after a week he came and put a new bulb in it came on. When he left and I turned it off and it wouldn't come back on so now the ballast was out. Well another week goes by he came Monday and said he would be back the next day to replace the fixture. Well, I got  a light today 15 days later. Do you know how hard it is to see in a darken kitchen when your are already at a disadvantage of doing it from a seated position? Having lights is not considered a emergency or necessity so they didn't have to take care of it in a timely manner, just when they got around to it. UGH.

Well, I guess I have rambled enough and got out some of my frustration, I better get my stuff ready for tomorrow, I am going on a quilting retreat with a great group of ladies from The Quilt Room in Huffman. I will try to write from my phone if it doesn't get lost in the great waste land again.

I'm in bed

I just downloaded the mobile app so I can blog on the go. This is my test post!

I have 30 minutes to get to bed!

Well let's see how I did on my list, I didn't get to bed like I said but I did get up only an hour later than my 8am. I worked on the computer most of the day trying to get the email from the weekend taken care of. I also organized some of the embroidery files on my computer which I needed to do so I would be able to find them for use later. I also made my quilt block for PBPQG. I will go back and edit yesterdays post to reflect that. I will be here most of the day tomorrow and I really have to get a couple of projects done for the weekend. I will be gone all day Thursday sewing with both guilds at Sit-n-Sews. At least they are not that far apart and I will be able go to one and stay for an while then head to the other for the rest of the afternoon. When I get home I have to get my project and supplies ready for a retreat I am going to with some of the women from my favorite quilt shop The Quilt Room (TQR) in Huffman. http://www.thequiltroomhuffman.com/ I am really looking forward to getting to know these ladies a lot better. I also need to finish my challenge project for Fat Sat at TQR, this month we could make anything we wanted with our fat quarter and embellish it. I haven't decided what to make yet but I have lots of trim that I can use and I will probably add some machine embroidery to it too.

Tonight at PBPQG the speaker was one of our members Kim Norton from A Busy Bobbin (http://www.abusybobbin.com/) a professional longarmer. She showed us the most beautiful quilt that she and her mother have made. She had the first quilt that she made back when she was in 4-H I was so impressed. I have long been a fan of the beautiful work that she does but doubt that I will ever be able to afford to have any of my quilts professionally quilted but it doesn't hurt to dream. She has two long arm machines which she named Molly Monster & Betsy Beast, how cute are those names. LOL

My friend Lucy had to leave the meeting early because she wasn't feeling well and she left me her raffle tickets to see if she was a winner. She won a book and a $15 gift certificate to TQR. Yeah LUCY! Hope you feel better soon. I will get you your prize on Friday when I come through Huffman on the way to the retreat. I think I mentioned before that I put together the newsletter for the PBPQG and 2 of the ladies don't have email and were having to wait until the meeting to get a printed copy of the newsletter. Well last month when I finished the newsletter I printed a copy for each of them and mailed them. They were so appreciative and gave me a big hug. Such a small thing can be so meaningful and so many times we seem to overlook those things. I hope I never forget to think of others and put them first. I thank God daily for the blessings I have in my life and just really want to share the love and adoration that he has placed on my heart for others.

ACS Home and Work

Tonight I found a new site that I am really excited about to purchase flour sack towels and hotel quality towels that I can embroider on. They really seem to be a great price and I am going to get some of to try, they have baby items too that I would love to try so that I can add that to the items I want to make and sale using embroidery. I found them through one of my online Yahoo Embroidery Groups so that is a thumbs up in my book since I have learned so much from these groups already I know this will be another great asset to add to my list of vendors.

So get ready to see samples of products I am going to be trying out soon. I will keep you posted on the progress and tell you all about the quality, prices, shipping, etc. as I get it all worked out so stay tuned for more. If you want to look them up yourself the link to there website is http://www.acshomeandwork.com/

Life Really Does Happen!

You know "Life" moves by us so swiftly that sometimes we don't even realize it has passed us by! My life has been like that lately. It seems that my days run together and I can't seem to differentiate one from another, then life seems to catch up and all of a sudden my days flow easily. Life is funny that way, I have become so ingrossed in my life as a quilter and in trying to learn new things that I find that I am constantly coasting along trying to find out what to do next. Does one ever learn to much? I think NOT. I can just get lost daily in the rambling of others blogs and wonder how do they manage to do it each day? I really want to do that, I want to commit to something that can add balance to my life to get on a schedule and make a commitment to it.

My life needs structure and discipline, would you like to join me on my journey? I know that life is going to get in the way especially these next few weeks since Quilt Market & Festival are coming up but I plan on starting anyway. I know it won't be a perfect record and that is not my goal, my goal is to commit and follow through to the best of my ability. So here is my "Bucket List" for my journey to a better scheduled and productive life. Listed in no particular order.

  • Get up and dressed by 8 daily.
  • Go to bed by midnight daily. (earlier if possible)
  • Write daily on my blog.
  • For every 1 hour spent at the computer I will spend 1 hour doing another activity. (i.e. sewing, embroidery)
  • Get KAQG (Kingwood Area Quilt Guild) lottery block information set for the year.
  • Get KAQG lottery display made.
  • Make lottery blocks. (KAQG & PBPQG)
  • Prepare PBPQG (Peace By Piecing Quilt Guild) newsletter ahead of time so that I can plug in information as it is recieved instead of doing it all last minute.
  • Make a list of sewing projects needed to be finished. (UFO's)
  • Pull all the supplies and materials to complete the projects on the UFO list and create kits for easy access.
  • Create a master calendar of all activities so I can see at a glance what is coming up and plan an not wait until last minute to prepare.
  • Organize desk for better efficiency.

Well I am tired already but this is a starting point and I need to try to do my first action tonight and get in bed by midnight. It is now 10:36 PM so I need to get started. Thanks for reading if you are there please let me know by leaving a comment and as I figure all this out I will try to keep it real and let you know how it goes. I will update the list and add new ones as I come up with them.
